Kylee Speedy, of the women’s basketball team, is the UNB REDS/Papa John’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week.
The third-year guard played a big role as the REDS won a pair of home games, including a Saturday showdown of the top two teams in Atlantic University Sport.
In Friday’s 92-58 win over Dalhousie, Speedy scored 18 points, including the 500th of her regular season career, and registered four assists.
On Saturday, in UNB’s big 82-73 win over Saint Mary’s, she had a team-high 22 points and dished out three assists.
Over the two games, Speedy was 10-for-17 from three-point range.
“Kylee has really stepped up as a starter for us this semester and played some of her best basketball to help our team secure two big wins,” said REDS’ head coach Erin McAleenan. “She was a consistent and dominant threat from behind the arc in both games and hit a big one late in the game likely sealing our win Saturday. The work that Kylee has put in behind the scenes over her career is paying off.”
Speedy and her REDS’ teammates go on the road this weekend for games Friday and Saturday at Memorial.
