The UNB Reds/Papa John’s Pizza female Athlete of the Week is Eva Tumwine, from the women’s basketball team.
Tumwine played a critical role as the Reds split a pair of weekend games with the Memorial Sea-Hawks.
In Saturday’s 54-53 loss, the fifth-year Reds forward led the UNB effort with 15 points, six rebounds and three steals.
In Sunday’s dramatic 71-70 victory, in overtime, Tumwine again led the Reds in scoring. She had 20 points, on 10-for-18 shooting, including the winning basket in overtime. She added seven rebounds and two more steals.
“Eva had a huge weekend for us,” said Reds head coach Jeff Speedy. “She scored the ball really well, and grabbed some key offensive rebounds. We need our veterans to lead the way at this time of year, and she certainly did that.”
Tumwine and her Reds teammates finish their Atlantic University Sport regular season schedule playing host to the Dalhousie Tigers, Saturday at 6:00pm.
