White Joins REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s swimming team is naming Fredericton’s Sammy White to their recruiting class of 2024.
The 17-year-old is completing her Grade 12 year at Fredericton's Leo Hayes High School.
A veteran of the Fredericton Aquanauts Swim Team and the 2022 Canada Games, she's signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 Atlantic University Sport season.
“We’ve watched Sammy progress over the years and feel she’s one of the better young swimmers in the region,” said Marta Belsh, head coach of the REDS. “Her experiences at Canada Games and other big championship meets will be an asset as she makes the transition to U SPORTS swimming.”
White represented New Brunswick at the 2022 Canada Games and has been part of Swimming New Brunswick’s Next Gen and High-Performance programs.
“I’ve grown up around the UNB REDS and have seen that they have an amazing team atmosphere that I’ve always wanted to be part of,” said White. “I have a great drive for the sport and love being pushed and I love to help push others,” she added.
“Sammy is a solid addition for our group,” said Coach Belsh. “She’s got the ability, and we’ll help her continue to develop her technique. We’re excited to see how that will pay off.”
White has her sights set on becoming AUS Rookie of the Year in 2024-25. Her longer-term goals include representing the REDS at the U SPORTS Championships.
She’ll study Nursing while attending UNB.
