Tumwine and Campbell commit to UNB
Women's basketball is pleased to announce the addition of two strong recruits
UNB women's basketball is incredibly pleased to announce the addition of Eva Tumwine and Megan Campbell to their 2015-2016 squad.
Eva Tumwine comes to the V-Reds from Fredericton High School. She plans to pursue a Bachelor of Science at UNB.
"I put a lot of thought and time thinking about where I wanted to go and for me UNB was the right decision," Tumwine said. "Being from Fredericton and growing up playing in the Junior V-Reds program makes me want to play for my community and give back."
"Eva is the best Grade 12 player in the province this year, and I'm very excited she chose us over her many other CIS options," said UNB head coach Jeff Speedy. "She's the first Junior V-Reds player to become a V-Red which is very exciting. Eva can help us right away and will definitely be a force to deal with throughout her career."
Tumwine says she's looking forward to bringing her skills to the team.
"I believe my aggressive style of play on offense, my physical defense and my passion and love of the game will help the team. My mom has taught me that hard work is the only way to reach my goals, and so I am always working to improve in and out of the season."
Megan Campbell comes to the squad from Moncton High School. She plans to pursue a Kinesiology degree at UNB and then become a firefighter.
"I've grown up watching UNB play, and I know it's a place where I'll learn and develop into one of those experienced players myself," Campbell said.
"While at UNB, I want to become the best basketball player I can be. I want to be pushed outsdie of my comfort zone, improve my skills and eventually help the V-Reds win a championship."
Coach Speedy says he sees a bright future for Campbell.
"A lot of AUS coaches are going to regret not recruiting Megan," Speedy said. "She is an above average athlete with great size and great strength for a perimeter player. I love how hard she plays and her desire to get better. I cannot wait to get Megan on campus and in the Currie Center."
