Howse Wins, REDS Repeat
(ST. JOHN'S, NL) Jared Howse (Red Deer, AB) led a parade of UNB REDS across the finish line at the 2024 Atlantic University Sport men's cross country championship, Saturday, in St. John's.
Howse won the men's eight-kilometre race in a time of 24:53.8, 20 seconds ahead of second place finish Jacob Benoit (Windsor, NS) of the Dalhousie Tigers.
UNB's William Boyle (Winnipeg, MB) was third and first-year RED Silas Conlin-Morse (Wolfville, NS) was fourth, the top rookie finisher and the AUS Rookie of the Year.
Brodie Pennie (Manitowagning, ON), another first-year RED, ran sixth and Mitchell Kean (Fredericton, NB) was ninth.
On the strength of five top ten finishers and seven top 20 finishers, UNB wins the overall team title for the second consecutive season.
The REDS scored 23 points, beating second place STFX by 27 points.
Following the race, Howse was named AUS men's cross country Athlete of the Year while REDS' head coach was name AUS Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
Howse, Boyle, Conlin-Morse, and Pennie were named AUS 1st Team All-Stars. Kean was named a 2nd Team All-Star.
