V-Reds take home the banner in game two against Tigers

The V-Reds hit the court tonight for game two of the best of three in the Subwac AUS Championship against the Dalhousie Tigers. Having won the first game, winning this would end the series, leaving UNB with the title of AUS Champions.
In the first set it was clear that the V-Reds wanted to win, with enthusiastic communication between players and Mathieu Losier setting big kills to Julio Fernandez and Eivind Andersen the V-Reds pull ahead 12-8.
The Tigers didn’t wait long to respond earning some big blocks up front. Despite the V-Reds four blocks of the set, the Tigers take the first set 23-25.
After losing the first set, the V-Reds didn’t waste any time showing that they planned to take the second set. Mathieu Losier put up 10 assists in the second set alone, leading to phenomenal kills from Marc White, and Eivind Andersen.
With digs from Julio Fernandez, Mathieu Losier and Eivind Andersen the V-Reds were making it very challenging for the Tigers to earn points and kept them trailing the entire set.
With 13 successful kills, the V-Reds take the second set 25-17 leaving each team with a set apiece
The Third set, much like the first, was taken control of early on, however this time it was the V-Reds who showed their desire for the win. With UNB adding 14 powerful kills to their stats, and hustling hard for the digs, Julio Fernandez, Mathieu Losier and Eivind Andersen helped increase the digs by 14.
Also, adding points for the V-Reds were Marc White and Eivind Andersen with ace serves.
The V-Reds took the set 25-19, taking the lead two sets to one.
With the game going into a fourth set, the win was within reach for the V-Reds, knowing that if they were to win this set, they would become AUS champions and advance to the CIS.
Feeding from the energy of the previous set, and cheers from loud supporters, the fourth set was kicked off with fire in the V-Red’s eyes.
With crucial sets coming from Mathieu Losier, the ball was fed to Marc White, Julio Fernandez and Eivind Andersen, who continued to pound the ball just out of reach of the Tigers maintaining a powerful lead.
Player of the game for the V-Reds was Rookie of the year Eivind Andersen with 10 kills, 9 digs, and 13 points. For the Tigers, player of the game was Jonathan MacDonald who had 7 kills, 5 digs, and 9 points.
The V-Reds went on to win the set 25-7 thus becoming the AUS Champions of the 2012-2013 season.
Coach Dan McMorran was ecstatic about the win on home court, much like the team, and when asked about CIS he made it clear they were looking forward to it saying, “We don’t want to just be satisfied with AUS champions, we want to make some noise at the national level. It may be tough but a tough game is much more fun.”
