Men's Volleyball post convincing 3-0 win
January 26, 2013
The V-Reds hit the court today for game two of two against the Dalhousie Tigers. After a hard fought, disappointing 3-2 loss yesterday, the V-Reds knew they had to change something to take the win today.
With first serve of the game, the Varsity Reds made it clear they weren’t fooling around; they took a 4-0 lead right away. Big kills from Craig Toonders and Logan Keoughan kept the Tigers caged during the first set, never letting them get ahead - UNB took the first set 25-17.
V-Reds player of the game, Craig Toonders had 10 kills, also led with four block assists. Tiger’s player of the game, Alex Dempsey led his team in kills as well, with 13, and a total of six digs.
The second set, much like the first, had both teams at the net blocking hit after hit, with big blocks coming from Mathieu Losier, Logan Keoughan, and Craig Toonders.
Setter Mathieu Losier provided his UNB teammates with great point opportunities, keeping the Tigers within a couple points the entire set. UNB also captured the second set 25-17.
Coach McMorran felt much better about today’s game compared to yesterday, however he stated, “The third set was the same type as the sets yesterday, but we played well, as we had to, to beat them.”
In the third set, the Tigers pushed hard against the V-Reds forcing some deep digs, from Julio Fernandez, Andrew Costa and Matthew Sweet, that transitioned into powerful kills from Eivind Anderson, Marc White and Craig Toonders.
Despite the Tigers best efforts, the Varsity Reds kept their focus on the win and fought hard to the last point, taking the set, 29-27 and the match 3-0.
