REDS Men 3rd After Day 1 Of Legere Invitational
(FREDERICTON, NB) The Dalhousie Tigers scored wins in 14 of the 19 events on the first day of competition at the Amby Legere Invitational, the first meet on the 2024-2025 Atlantic University Sport swimming schedule.
The event is being held at UNB's Sir Max Aitken Pool.
Dal's impressive Saturday run included five podium sweeps.
Emilie Schofield, Morgan Sparkes, and Connor Maloney all recorded two victories.
Schofield took first in the women's 400-metre Individual Medley and 200-metre backstroke while Sparkes won the men's 400 IM and 800-metre freestyle. Maloney won the men's 50-metre breaststroke, edging UNB's Blake Kingston by 4/10ths of a second, and the 100-metre breaststroke.
Ella Collins won twice for Acadia, finishing first in the women's 50-metre and 100-metre breaststrokes.
Her teammate, Sophie Rooney won the women's 100-metre freestyle, beating fellow Axewoman Cassidy Karrel by a mere 8/100ths of a second.
Dal leads the women's, men's, and overall team standings after the first day, while Acadia is second in all three categories.
UNB is third overall with the Mount Allison Mounties fourth.
The meet wraps up Sunday morning. Racing begins at 10:00am.
