Murray Scores OT Winner

(MONCTON, NB) Jordan Murray(Riverview, NB) scored in overtime to give the UNB Varsity Reds a 2-1 win over the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus on Wednesday night.

Murray took a pass from Philippe Maillet(Terrebonne, QC) and snapped a shot over the shoulder of Moncton goaltender Brandon Thibeau(Riverview, NB), just 1:44 into the extra five-minute session.

The win gives the Varsity Reds 51 points with one more regular season game remaining.

The home side opened the scoring, with just four seconds left in the first period.

Jean-Francois Plante(Sherbrooke, QC) scored his U SPORTS leading 28th goal of the season, giving Moncton a 1-0 edge after 20 minutes.

Chris Clapperton(Cap Espoir, QC) pulled UNB even mid-way through the second period.

On the power-play, Clapperton dropped to one knee in taking a cross-ice pass from Murray and blasted the puck past Thibeau.

The two teams would take the tie through the 60 minute mark, setting the table for Murray's winning goal.

Cam Braes(Shawnigan Lake, BC) assisted on both of UNB's goals.

Alex Dubeau(Mascouche, QC) stopped 11 of the 12 shots he faced in the Varsity Reds net.

Thibeau stopped 35 of 37 in the Moncton goal.

With the win, the Varsity Reds are 24-2-3 on the season, having already clinched the AUS pennant and a first round playoff bye.

Moncton remains in contention for the final AUS playoff spot. The Aigles Bleus round out their regular season Friday, when they visit UPEI.

The Varsity Reds close out their regular season schedule on Saturday, playing host to the Panthers.
