(HALIFAX, NS) The U Sports number one ranked UNB Varsity Reds skated to a 6-4 victory over the Dalhousie Tigers on Saturday night. The 200 fans in attendance were on the edge of their seat for the majority of the game as the two teams combined for a total of ten goals.

The Varsity Reds opened the scoring 5:16 into the first period. A scramble in front of the Tigers net allowed Cam Braes(Shawnigan Lake, BC) to chip a Philippe Maillet(Terrebonne, QC) pass over Dal goalie Joe Gladnick(Philadelphia, PA).

The VReds widened their lead at 9:35, when Stephen Anderson(Morell, PE) took a pass from Chris Clapperton(Cap Espoir, QC) before snapping a top shelf rocket from the slot.

Fabian Walsh(Gloucester, ON) got the Tigers first of the game just two minutes after the second UNB goal and Andrew Wigginton(Sackville, NS) tied it late in the first.

UNB regained the lead 5:36 into the second period when Maillet added to his nation-leading points total.

Mark Simpson(Fredericton, NB) would restore UNB's two goal lead at 15:22 of the second, from Braes and Maillet.

Unfazed by the two goal lead, Dal got a short-handed goal from Phil Gadoury(Montreal, QC) before Felix Page(Montreal, QC) would tie the game 4-4.

Philippe Halley(Quebec City, QC) would restore UNB's lead late in the third period, and captain Cam Critchlow(Summerside, PE) would add an empty net goal to make the final score 6-4.

The Varsity Reds visit Moncton on Wednesday.

Up next for the Tigers, their final home game of the regular season, Friday, when they host Acadia.
