UNB's Tanya Paulin - Team Canada Final Selection Camp
WINNIPEG - Volleyball Canada is pleased to announce the list of athletes who have accepted the invitation to attend the 2011 National Women's Selection Camp.
The 2011 Selection Camp is scheduled from May 15-20 at the University of Manitoba. The following 48 athletes were selected from the Open Identification Camps which were held in Montreal and Calgary have been invited to attend this camp, as well as Senior A & B athletes from the 2010 season. The complete schedule for the camps is outlined below.
Following the Selection Camp, approximately 18 athletes will be selected to stay in Winnipeg for the Senior A National Team program. Those selected to the B Team following camp will return to their hometowns and come back to Winnipeg to train together in July through their departure to China for the 2011 FISU Games in August. Those selected to the Senior A Team will train throughout the summer, fall and winter with the main focus being preparation for and success at the 2011 Continental Olympic Qualifying Tournament in December. The first competition for the Senior Women’s A Team will be the annual Pan Am Cup in Chihuahua, Mexico from June 29-July 10th. Preparation for the Pan Am Cup will include hosting the Argentinian Women's National Team from June 22-June 29 in Manitoba. Team Canada will also host Team Holland for a series of exhibition games in the Ontario region (Oshawa, Waterloo & Hamilton) from August 15-22. This exhibition series will help Team Canada prepare for the 2011 NORCECA Championship from September 10-18 in Caguas, Puerto Rico, as well as the Pan American Games from October 15-20.
The Senior A Team will be lead by Head Coach Arnd Ludwig, along with Assistant Coach Scott Koskie. Alain Pelletier from the Université Laval has recently been named the Head Coach for the B Team. He will be supported over the summer by Lee Carter from Brandon University, and Joely Christian-Macfarlane from Queen's University.
