MacIsaac Runs Record AT BU Meet
(BOSTON, MA) The UNB REDS has some strong showings at Boston University’s ‘Battle In Beantown’ meet, featuring top track and field talent from across the NCAA.
UNB’s Shelby MacIsaac ran to a third-place finish in the women’s 300-metres, finishing just 14/100ths of a second behind the winner.
MacIsaac, from Riverview, finished in a time of 39.80 seconds, which establishes new provincial and UNB records in the women’s 300.
MacIsaac’s REDS teammates Jillian Langille and Peighton Johnson finished 5th and 6th respectively.
Langille also ran 6th in qualifying for the women’s 60-metres, just 2/10ths of a second off the top qualifier’s time. She now holds the No. 1 ranking in the 60 in Atlantic University Sport and is ranked second in the 300.
UNB women ran 3:54.87 in the 4-by-400-metre relay, making them the No. 1 ranked team in the AUS and No. 5 in U SPORTS.
Julia Leblanc continued her strong season, recording a personal best jump of 5.53 metres to finish fifth in the women’s long jump. That distance puts her fourth in UNB’s record book in the event.
In the women’s 3000-metres, Ivy Bialowas ran a season best 10:19.94 to finish 6th and move into the top 10 in the AUS in the event.
“Our women’s team had a solid weekend, lots of AUS ranking improvements and good competition against strong NCAA competition,” said REDS’ head coach Chris Belof. “Our women’s sprint group continues to impress and will be a key part of our team strength at the AUS Championships.”
On the men’s side, Jackson Banks had an outstanding weekend, running 6.97 seconds in the 60-metres and 35.23 seconds in his debut in the 300-metres. Banks is now ranked No. 1 in the AUS in both events.
Frances Charles Roussel recorded a personal best in the 300-metres, 37.01 seconds, and moved into the top 10 in the AUS rankings.
Tony Jeong threw a personal best in the men’s shot put. His throw of 12.22 metres moved him into 5th in the AUS rankings.
Hayden McKinnon opened his season with a time of 1:24.52 in the 600-metres and is now ranked third in the AUS in the event.
“Our men’s group had some ups and downs, but overall a strong weekend of performances,” said Coach Belof. “It’s exciting to see our men’s power speed groups growing and coming into their own and delivering some very strong results.”
“Our staff is excited to see this group continue to grow throughout the season,” he added.
The REDS are sending two groups of student-athletes in different directions this weekend.
One group returns to Boston for Boston University’s John Terrier Classic while a second group will head to Montreal for the McGill Team Challenge.
The REDS will play host to the next AUS meet, the REDS Invitational, February 2nd and 3rd, at the Irving Oil Fieldhouse, in Saint John.
