Tiede To Run For REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s track and field and cross country teams are naming Wainwright, Alberta distance runner Morgan Tiede to their recruiting class of 2023.
Tiede has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the REDS ahead of the 2023-2024 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Morgan is a strong distance runner who has a very high ceiling” said Chris Belof, head coach of the REDS’ track and field and cross country teams.
“The atmosphere on campus and within the team were unmatched,” said Tiede. “After meeting the team, I knew I had found a team that I could belong to. I was drawn to Coach Belof’s perspective on coaching and while visiting campus, I knew I wanted nothing more than to be a RED”.
The 17-year-old is finishing her Grade 12 year at Wainwright’s Blessed Sacrament School.
In 2021, Tiede was sixth in the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association Cross Country Championships in the intermediate girls five kilometre event.
In 2022, she claimed the bronze medal at the ASAA Track & Field Championships in the 3000m, and was fifth in the 1500m.
Over the 2022 cross country season, she ran to a seven place finish at the ASAA Championships in the senior girls 5K.
“I am driven by my passion for running, and hope to bring my motivation and positive attitude to the team in the fall,” says Tiede.
“We are very excited about Morgan’s commitment to UNB, and we expect her work ethic and drive to excel to contribute on the AUS and U SPORTS level in the very near future,” said Coach Belof.
Tiede says her short-term goal with the REDS is to contribute to the team’s success at the AUS and U SPORTS levels in her rookie season. Long-term, she has sights on top-level performances at the AUS and U SPORTS Championships.
Tiede will study Kinesiology while attending UNB.
