REDS And Panthers Play To Draw

(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE) Scoring chances were few and far between, as the UPEI Panthers and UNB REDS played to a 0-0 draw on a chilly Sunday afternoon.

"It's a tie and we can only go up from here," said centreback Roselyn Kushko (Russell, ON). "We have a game Thursday and I think we can definitely win that if we continue to drive."

Kushko was key in keeping the game knotted at zeroes. She led an entire backline that played its best game of the season, denying UNB from generating any scoring opportunities.

"Our backline was solid the entire game," she said. "We just communicated well and made sure we were organized and had our head in the game."

On the other side, UPEI's Patrycia Kozak (Mississauga, ON) had plenty of opportunities, but couldn't beat REDS' keeper Brynn Nash (Saskatoon, SK), who recorded four saves on the striker alone.

"It's a disappointing result," said REDS' head coach Jon Crossland. "We talked about playing with urgency today, and we created good chances in the first half, but the second half we were rushing things and they played well in a low block and we didn't get behind them enough."

With the draw, the REDS are now 1-2-2 while the Panthers are 0-3-2.

Both teams are back in action on Thursday.

UPEI travels to Acadia while the REDS host Mount Allison.

"We have a big week leading into Thanksgiving," said Crossland.

The REDS and Mounties are scheduled to kick-off at 5:00pm on Thursday, at UNB's BMO Centre.
