UNB Varsity Reds – 7th Annual fundraiser for Breast Cancer Research
The UNB Varsity Reds athletics program is pleased to announce part one of two weekends where student-athletes will raise money in their 7th annual "Think Pink" initiative.
This coming weekend (October 18-20) the men's and women's swim and soccer teams will engage in a number of fundraising efforts beginning on Friday night at the AUS Amby Legere Invitational Swim Meet. Swimmers will wear pink swim caps and will sell raffle tickets on a beautiful pink hand-made quilt. This is the first time that the swimmers have been able to actively take part in Think Pink on campus.
During Saturday's soccer games the women's soccer team will once again be selling a number of items at the BMO Centre. They include: painted pumpkins, baked goods, gift baskets, mittens, t-shirts and pink ribbons, as well as a silent auction on a breast cancer wreath. Many of the items will also be available at the men's hockey game at the Aitken Centre.
At half time of the women's soccer game on Sunday afternoon two members of the UNB swim team, Juliana Vantellingen and Brittany Harvey, will cut their hair which will be donated to "Locks for Love".
"We are very proud of the way our whole program is engaged in playing a part in raising funds for breast cancer research," said John Richard, Director of Athletics at UNB.
"What started as a CIS women's basketball initiative with "Shoot for the Cure", has become so much more at UNB and at many other university campuses across Canada," continued Richard.
The second of the two "Think Pink" weekends will take place on January 31st - February 2nd when men's and women's basketball and volleyball and men's hockey are all competing at home throughout the weekend.
