REDS Open AUS Championships With Win
(WINDSOR, NS) The UNB REDS curling teams returned to action Thursday, the first day of the 2022 Atlantic University Sport Curling Championships.
The women opened up their tournament with a strong 9-6 victory over Mount Allison.
Led by skip Jenna Campbell, The REDS got off to a strong start scoring 4 in the first end. Mount Allison would chip away at the UNB lead, tying the game 4-4 with a steal of 2 in the 5th end.
UNB was able to answer right back with a phenomenal 5-point 6th end to jump ahead 9-4 and take control of the match.
"I thought it was a pretty strong performance," said Campbell. "The ice was tricky and we just missed a few shots here and there. They stole a couple of points on us, but then we came back strong to pull out the win."
Day 2 of the AUS Championships goes Friday.
The women's team will face the Dalhousie Tigers at 2:00pm, in Draw 2, before taking on Saint Mary's, at 7:00pm, to cap off their round-robin schedule.
"We'll need to learn from today's game and bring that same intensity forward to tomorrow," said Campbell.
