UNB To Play For AUS Title
Comeau rink advances with 5-3 win over Mt. A
(HALIFAX, NS) UNB's Justine Comeau will play for the Atlantic University Sport women's curling championship on Sunday.
Comeau needed an extra end to beat Mount Allison 5-3 in one of two women's semi-finals.
The Comeau foursome led 2-0 after three ends. Mount A got a single in the fifth and stole one in the eighth to force the extra end. UNB scored two in the ninth for the 5-3 win.
"It was a close game, and both teams played great," said Comeau. "I'm happy we were able to come out on top."
"I thought we had a solid game and made a lot of great shots. I'm eager to see what we can accomplish in Sunday's final. We're also very excited to move on to represent UNB at the U SPORTS Championships, in March," she said.
Saturday's semi-final win moves them into Sunday's AUS final, and it also qualifies the team for the national championships, in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, March 11-15.
The Reds will face the top-seeded Dal Tigers in Sunday's final. They advanced with an 8-1 win over Saint Mary's.
On the men's side, UNB's Jack Smeltzer saw his tournament come to an end in a 9-1 semi-final loss to Memorial's Greg Blyde.
Dal beat Saint Mary's 7-3 in the second semi.
Sunday's finals go at 10:00am.
