Mombourquette To Join REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) In basketball recruiting circles, Addie Mombourquette is a blue-chip prospect… and the star wing will showcase her talents with the UNB REDS, beginning next season.
The Fredericton-native has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2023-2024 Atlantic University Sport season.
“We’re thrilled that Addie has decided to join the REDS women’s basketball family,” said REDS head coach Jeff Speedy. “Her values and work ethic are a perfect fit for our program. She’s someone we have had our eye on for a long time, and we’re excited that she’ll be wearing the red and black here at the Currie Center next season.”
“I’ve wanted to wear a REDS’ jersey and play here for the longest time,” said Mombourquette. “I’ve grown up in that gym.”
The 17-year-old, currently in Grade 12 year, has been a starter for New Brunswick high school powerhouse, the Fredericton High Black Kats for three seasons.
She’s now in her fourth season with the varsity team at FHS, and helped lead the Black Kats to back-to-back provincial championships in 2021 and 2022. FHS is expected to three-peat in 2023.
In addition to her success with the Black Kats, Mombourquette played a major role for Team NB at the U15 national championship tournament, in Victoria, in 2020, and Basketball NB’s U18 team at the 2022 Canada Summer Games.
“Addie is one of the top players in her age group in Atlantic Canada,” said Coach Speedy. “She’s skilled offensively, can play and defend multiple positions, and will have an immediate impact in the AUS.”
“I’m a versatile player who will be able to contribute at both ends of the floor,” said Mombourquette. “I’m someone who’s determined to work hard on the floor each chance I get.”
“I feel comfortable playing different positions and I feel that I fit the culture and style of play of the REDS and will be able to help contribute to the team in those ways,” she added.
“She’s a winner, but she is also someone who will work every day to get better and help the team get better,” said Speedy. “She wants to win, and she is expecting to win here at UNB.”
