Reds Run At U SPORTS Championships
Cull 96th, Colford 107th
(KINGSTON, ON) UNB’s Isaac Cull (Pubnico, NS) ran to a 96th place finish and Michael Colford (Fredericton, NB) was 107th in Saturday’s U SPORTS men’s cross country championship, hosted by Queen’s University, in Kingston, Ontario.
161 runners took to the 10-kilometre course, at Kingston’s historic Fort Henry Hill.
“Michael and Isaac had solid runs,” said Reds head coach Chris Belof. “Conditions were cold and windy, and that left a lot of variables in play. Each had some really bright points in their races, but unfortunately some of their mistakes were magnified and that’s to be expected in a championship race like this.”
Cull finished in a time of 33:50, 2:37 behind winner Connor Black, of the Guelph University Gryphons.
“The conditions really changed my race plan,” said Cull. “I progressed through the race and moved up fairly well in the second half. I feel I learned a lot at my first U SPORTS Championship.”
Colford stopped the watch in 34:17.
“I’d planned to move up throughout the second half of the race, but I had a difficult time executing that, given the conditions. I felt it was a good effort today, but will certainly be looking to improve upon this result at future championships.”
