Levitt Joins Reds After Long Courtship
Recruiting began more then three years ago
(FREDERICTON, NB) Daniel Levitt has been on the UNB Reds’ radar screen for a while.
Now, finally, the gifted 6’2” shooting guard is on the Reds’ roster.
Levitt has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the Reds beginning in the 2018-19 season.
The Montreal native attended Arizona State University last year, after two seasons at Cleveland State University.
In 2015-16, as a freshman walk-on at Cleveland State, Levitt played in 14 games, averaging 4.5 points per game before a season-ending injury.
In 2016-17, Levitt played in 21 games for the Vikings.
“Daniel is a high energy, high IQ guard who brings athleticism, scoring ability, and veteran leadership to our young group,” said Reds interim coach Matt Daley. “He has the ability to play multiple positions. He excels in transition and can finish above the rim and from behind the three-point line.”
“I had a good relationship with Coach Baker, when he was recruiting me a while back,” said Levitt. “Fredericton is a great town, and having the support of a university when it comes to athletics is important.”
Levitt was a member of Quebec’s team that defeated New Brunswick 65-57 in the bronze medal game at 2013 Canada Summer Games, in Sherbrooke.
Before Cleveland State, he attended New Hampton School, a prep school in New Hampshire.
“Being a player who has spent the last three years in NCAA Division One, I have experienced what it takes to compete and win at that level,” he said. “My athleticism and ability to finish above the rim is a big part of my game, as well as my shooting.”
Levitt looks forward to helping UNB defend its first Atlantic University Sport championship in more than 50 years.
“My short-term goals are to win our league and go on and compete at the national championship,” he said.
“His experience playing at a high level will help him be an impact player right away in this league,” said Daley.
Levitt will study Business while attending UNB.
