Javon Masters of the UNB Varsity Reds men's basketball team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male Athlete of the Week for the week ending Nov. 17, 2013.

A first-year arts student from Kitchener, Ont., Masters posted 44 points and earned Subway Player of the Game honours in UNB's 93-81 victory Friday night over the UPEI Panthers.

The following night, in the Varsity Reds' second weekend matchup against the Panthers, Masters scored another 25 points, 23 of which were in the second half. UNB would win Saturday's game 103-91.

The Varsity Reds currently sit atop the AUS men's basketball standings with a 4-0 record.

 

UNB's Masters honoured – CIS Male Athlete of the Week

OTTAWA (CIS) – Molly Wedge, a swimmer from Dalhousie University, and Javon Masters, a basketball player from the University of New Brunswick, are the Canadian Interuniversity Sport female and male athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 17, 2013.
 
Masters, a first-year arts student from Kitchener, Ont., was nothing short of sensational during a two-game sweep against UPEI as he averaged 34.5 points per contest, including a 44-point outburst in the Varsity Reds' home opener on Friday. In a 93-81 win, the 6-foot guard was good on 11 of 16 field goal attempts and 20 of 26 free throws in 34 minutes on the court. The super freshman was at it again on Saturday, helping the V-Reds improve to 4-0 on the young season thanks to his 25 points in 29 minutes in a 103-91 victory.
 
Laval volleyball player Tommy Bélisle, Carleton basketball player Philip Scrubb and Manitoba hockey player Joe Caligiuri were the other male nominees.
