Tanya Paulin – balancing professional volleyball, education and travel
FREDERICTON, NB: It's been three years since UNB volleyball standout Tanya Paulin wore the Red and Black volleyball uniform of the Varsity Reds. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, Paulin has worn the various colours of several European professional teams; working in France, Sweden, Romania and Switzerland.
The 6'2" middle from Bathurst, N.B. flew to Europe in April 2010 after an illustrious Atlantic University Sport career at the University of New Brunswick. Her first stint with a professional club was in France before settling just outside of Stockholm with Sollentuna.
Last season Paulin competed for a team in Lausanne, Switzerland, and enjoyed that country so much she has confirmed a one-year deal with "Genève Volley" located in Geneva, Switzerland and will compete in the Swiss League.
While Genève Volley is a step down in the competitive level it's a step in the right direction for 25 year old Paulin whose focus is changing as she is looking to continue her education by obtaining her certification as a Nutrition Coach. Her Geneva team is interested in Paulin signing an additional two year contract for 2015-1207 and should all go well will assist her financially in obtaining her Master's Degree in Nutrition.
Paulin has been making the most of her time in Europe taking in all the culture and visiting many different places as time permits. She recently spent time travelling throughout Spain with good friend and former UNB student-athlete, Monica MacDonald.
"I really miss my former teammates – we are still close friends. We spent so much time together at UNB; practicing, travelling, competing and just hanging out," said Paulin.
And, while today's technology enables everyone to keep in touch, "There's nothing like coming back to New Brunswick in the summer to see her old pals and spend time with family."
