Sinclair Shines At AUS Championships
(HALIFAX, NS) UNB's Emma Sinclair delivered an outstanding performance on the final day of the Atlantic University Sports Championships at Dalhousie's Dalplex on Sunday evening. Sinclair captured a gold medal in the women's 200-meter butterfly, marking her third medal of the championships.
Sinclair made a late surge to pass Dal's Sophia Idle and earn the gold medal in a time of 2:24.54.
"Coming out of the turn at 150, I could tell she'd made a decision to chase the girl in first place and at the last turn, I knew she had her," said REDS' head coach Marta Belsh.
In addition to her gold medal, Sinclair was honored as AUS Female Rookie of the Year and Rookie of the Championships.
Blake Kingston capped a strong championship weekend by earning a silver medal in the men's 50-meter breaststroke with a time of 28.48, qualifying him for the U SPORTS Championships.
"I knew he was ready to race, the only question was how well could he put the races together," said Coach Belsh. "It was a very tight race, stroke for stroke. Blake mis-timed his turn and finish touch slightly, but he came away with a huge personal best time and second place."
Kingston, alongside teammates Craig Bush, Maxime Kenny, and Eric Jean, won bronze in the men's 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay.
Èlodie Martin claimed a silver medal in the women's 100-meter freestyle, finishing just behind Dalhousie's Reagan Crowell, with a time of 57.61.
In the men's 200-meter backstroke, Kenny finished in fourth place, just shy of the podium, with a time of 2:10:33.
The UNB men ended the AUS Championships in third place. The women's team secured fourth place.
"It was an amazing weekend with great swims from a majority of the team," said Belsh.
