REDS Win Twice
(MONTAGUE, PE) The UNB REDS won twice on Friday, improving to 3-and-1 at the Atlantic University Sport Women's Curling Championship, in Montague, Prince Edward Island.
In the afternoon draw, UNB stole a point in the fourth end and limited their opponent's opportunities in a 5-3 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies.
"Our game this afternoon was a strong performance," said REDS skip Jenna Campbell. "We played confidently and were able to come away with the win."
In the evening draw, UNB came from behind, scoring two in the final end to beat the host UPEI Panthers 5-4.
"We knew going in that UPEI would be a tough opponent," said Campbell. "We went into the eighth end down by one, so we locked in, dug deep and finished strong."
"Today was a great day for this team," said head coach Wayne Tallon. "They won both games because of their patience and perseverance. They were able to capitalize on opportunities that presented themselves at every moment. I'm proud of how they played and used their curling IQ."
The REDS finish round robin play on Saturday with two games.
They take on STFX in the morning draw, at 9:00am, and Mount Allison in the 7:00pm draw.
"We'll definitely be bringing today's energy into our Saturday games," said Campbell. "We're in a good spot going into the end of round robin play, but there's still work to be done."
