REDS Add PG Rosheen Antonroy
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s basketball team is naming 5’5” point guard Rosheen Antonroy to their recruiting class of 2024.
The 18-year-old, from Markham, ON, is finishing her Grade 12 year at Markham’s J. Addison School and has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent.
She’ll join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 Atlantic University Sport season.
“We’re thrilled that Rosheen has chosen to bring her talents to UNB and know that she’ll be able to come in and contribute right away,” said REDS’ head coach Erin McAleenan. “Her ability to create for herself and others will be a big asset at the point guard position, as well as her ability to be disruptive defensively.”
Antonroy has played a key role in the success of J. Addison’s team in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association.
In 2023-24, J. Addison went 15-1 in the OSBA’s Trillium Division and Antonroy was named a second team all-star as her team’s second-leading scorer.
“I’m an unselfish player that is willing to get my teammates involved,” said Antonroy. “When
needed to score, I can come off screens and make the right reads. I can also extend the floor with my shooting abilities. Most importantly, I find joy in being a great teammate. I love to encourage others and see the people around me win.”
Antonroy has also played roles with a couple of highly competitive club programs, including Toronto’s A-Game Basketball and RWI Basketball. In 2024 she was selected to participate in the AMAZN All-Star Showcase for top players of Asian heritage.
“I had a sense of excitement and belonging to the school the moment I set foot on campus,” said Antonroy. “I saw the way the community is attached to one another and how the people are willing to give back and share knowledge with those around them. The REDS family made me feel welcomed and wanted. Being away from home and making the step into university is a big step in itself. I know the people and resources at UNB will allow me to feel supported through these obstacles.”
“In the full court, Rosheen does a really good job as a floor general and likes to push the ball in transition, which will fit nicely with our style of play,” said Coach McAleenan. “She’s a high character young woman who values building strong connections with her teammates and genuinely wants to help them succeed. I know that Rosheen will come in and work to have an impact on our team both on the court and in the communities we serve. We can’t wait for her to be on campus.”
Antonroy says her immediate goals as a RED include growing and building her skill base. Longer-term, she wants to make a difference in the program.
Antonroy will study Biology while attending UNB.
