OH Sullivan Commits To REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS men’s volleyball team is naming 6’5” outside hitter Ben Sullivan to their recruiting class of 2024.
The 17-year-old, from Calgary, AB, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 RSEQ season.
“Ben is an athlete with loads of potential as an outside,” said REDS’ head coach Dan McMorran. “What also stands out for me is his love for the game and his drive to get better.”
Sullivan is completing his Grade 12 year at Calgary’s All Saints High School where he’s in his second season as a member of the Legends’ senior boy’s volleyball team.
In 2023, Sullivan was named an all-star in the Calgary high school city league and was the Legends’ most valuable player.
He’s also a veteran member of the Canada West Volleyball Club, having played on teams at the U14-U18 levels.
In 2023, Sullivan was part of the Canada West U17 side that won the gold medal at the 1B national championship tournament. In 2022, he was the Canada West U16 side’s most valuable player.
“I was drawn to the opportunity to be part of a close-knit group of athletes, coaches, and supporters,” said Sullivan. “My strengths have consistently revolved around my passing and hitting abilities, complemented by a quiet competitive nature. I also pride myself in being a supportive and reliable teammate.”
Sullivan was a member of Team Alberta’s U16 beach team in 2022.
“He has good size and reach, coupled with excellent passing and defensive promise,” said Coach McMorran. “As he continues to develop physically, look for him to be an impact player with our program. We’re very excited for him to join our young group and to start working with us.”
Sullivan says his short-term goals include building his physical strength and conditioning. “Long term, I would love to help bring a title to UNB.”
Sullivan will enter UNB’s Faculty of Arts.
