Backstroker Bulla Joins REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS men’s swimming team is adding backstroker Iain Bulla, of Beechwood, New Brunswick, to their recruiting class of 2023.
Bulla, one of the top backstrokers in the province for several years, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2023-24 Atlantic University Sport season.
He recently graduated from Carleton North High School, in Florenceville-Bristol.
“I chose UNB because the team atmosphere is positive and supportive,” said Bulla. “They have a strong coaching staff that will help me improve and reach my goals, and the Kinesiology facilities are excellent.”
A veteran member of Natation Edmundston Swimming, Bulla was also a member of the swim team at Carleton North and has been Swim NB’s top backstroker over 50, 100 and 200 metres in every age category from U12 to U18.
He holds multiple NES club records.
“Iain brings experience and success to our program,” said REDS’ head coach Marta Belsh. “We’ve watched Iain progress through the years and are excited he’s decided to join us for the next step in his swimming journey.”
“As an athlete, I’m highly disciplined and have a strong work ethic,” said Bulla. “I’m passionate about swimming and I hope to encourage and support my team as we work toward our individual goals.”
Short-term, Bulla wants to see consistent improvement with all strokes. Long-term, he’s aiming to qualify for U SPORTS championships.
Bulla will study Kinesiology while attending UNB.
