(SUDBURY, ON) A young UNB REDS team has finished its run at the U SPORTS Men's Curling Championship, in Sudbury, Ontario.

The REDS finished with an 11-7 win over Atlantic University Sport rivals Saint Mary's in their final round robin game, on Saturday.

UNB finishes with a 3-and-4 record and will not advance to Sunday's medal round.

Despite not advancing, head coach Lindsey MacKnight was please with the REDS' performance.

"Every player excelled in their positions," he said. "We got the results we deserved, but I can honestly say I saw the best version of all these exceptional student-athletes."

In their win over the Huskies, UNB's Jamie Stewart rink scored four in the second end and then stole two more in the third, taking a commanding lead.

Saint Mary's rebounded, scoring three in the fourth, but the REDS added two in the fifth and two more in the ninth to secure the win.

"We came out with a much better game tonight," said Stewart. "We were able to put a lot of pressure on the other team. We got an early lead and were able to stay calm and composed throughout the game."

In UNB's first game on Saturday, they dropped a 7-3 decision to Alberta.

"A small victory against a tough team, we didn't allow them to score any more than two points in an end," said MacKnight.
