Smal Wins 200 IM At Acadia Meet

(WOLFVILLE, NS) The last regular season meet of the Atlantic University Sport swimming season kicked off Saturday, at Acadia University, and session one saw numerous highlights for the UNB Reds.

Through the first day of competition, host Acadia leads the combined standings and men's standings. The Dalhousie Tigers are first on the women's side, while UNB is third in the women's competition, fourth in the men's and fourth in the combined standings.

UNB's Leah Smal was the lone non-Acadia or Dal swimmer to capture a win on the meet's opening day, and it came in the meet's first event, the women's 200m medley. Smal's Reds teammate, Jennifer Moore, finished third.

Smal also took third in the women's 50m butterfly, while Nikki Connors swam third in the women's 800m freestyle.

UNB finished third in both the women's and men's 200m medley relays.

Michael Walz, Noah Horwood, Erik Staeben, and Ahmed Helal swam the men's event, finishing behind Acadia and Dal.

Julia Campbell, Connors, Hannah Casey, and Smal ran the women's race for the Reds, finishing behind Dal and Acadia.
