(SYDNEY, NS) The UNB Reds run at the Subway Atlantic University Sport Women's Soccer Championship came to an end on Friday afternoon.

On a sunny, but windy, day in Sydney, the No. 5 Reds dropped a 2-0 decision to the No. 1 seeded Acadia Axewomen in the semi-finals.

Early on, Reds keeper Brynn Nash (Saskatoon, SK) was tested a lot, blocking a number of shots and making one nice diving save.

Acadia did a great job defensively, making sure UNB did not get the ball. In fact, the Reds didn't get a shot on goal the whole first half.

In the 35th minute, Holly Buckler (Halifax, NS) made a great pass to 1st Team AUS All-Star Jenna Boudreau (Halifax, NS), who scored to give the Axewomen a 1-0 lead.

Acadia took that one goal edge to half-time.

Acadia continued their strong play in the second half, smothering the Reds as soon as they got the ball, and not allowing UNB to set up their offence.

The Reds found a way to get a cross on the net, but it was disrupted by the Acadia defense and brought back to the Reds zone, and after a nice cross into the box by Boudreau, it was tipped into the net by the Reds for an own goal. That gave Acadia a 2-0 lead in the 53rd minute.

In the 70th minute, UNB slid in between the Acadia fullbacks and got a shot on net, but keeper Sarah Charnock (Newmarket, ON) made the save to keep the shutout alive

In the 88th minute, UNB had another chip shot on net, but it was taken down by the wind and easily collected by Charnock.

With the win, Acadia advances to Sunday's AUS championship game.

Boudreau was named the Subway Player of the Game.
