(FREDERICTON, NB) Sylvie Fecteau (Moncton, NB) scored twice to lead the UNB Reds women's soccer team to a 4-1 win over the visiting UPEI Panthers on Sunday.

Fecteau scored in the 24thand 27thminutes, earning Subway Player of the Game honours.

"It feels really good," said Fecteau. "That's what we needed to get ahead in our season."

Clarisse Ramirez (Ottawa, ON) also scored for the Reds.

Fecteau's first goal, in the 24thminute, came when she broke down the right wing and fired a hard shot that ricocheted off the crossbar and behind Panthers' keeper Amanda Stayner (Port Coquitlam, BC).

"I remember getting the ball and knowing I had the space to go forward," said Fecteau. "I took my touch in and then struck the ball."

Three minutes later, the fourth-year midfielder curled a corner kick into the far corner of the UPEI net.

Ramirez scored early in the second half, beating Stayner to a loose ball in the Panthers box and firing it past her.

The Panthers recorded an own goal in the 77thminute, giving the Reds a 4-0 lead before Madison Hurley (Charlottetown, PE) bounced on a rebound in the UNB box and beat Reds keeper Brynn Nash (Saskatoon, SK).

Despite giving up the late goal, Nash showed solid play for a second straight day to earn the win.

She made three saves, including two leaping efforts to punch high balls over the crossbar.

Panthers head coach Glen Miller says his team appears to have forgot some of soccer's basics.

"They've got to receive the ball properly, they got to pass the ball properly," he said. "There's just too many turnovers going on that are unforced errors that don't need to be turned over."

"No one needs to point any fingers at anyone else, they just have to take care of their own thing," said Miller.

The Panthers, now 0-4, return home to face Memorial on Saturday, in a 1:00pm start.

The Reds are now 2-2. They host St FX on Sunday. Game time is 1:00pm.
