UNB women's soccer draw tie against Memorial

Fredericton, (N.B.) – The UNB Varsity Reds women's soccer team tied the Memorial Seahawks in regular season action at the BMO Field in Fredericton.

The Varsity Reds women's soccer team will remain undefeated this season after facing the Seahawks for the first of a two game weekend. The last time the Varsity Reds and Seahawks faced off was in the AUS final last season, where the Seahawks prevailed.

The first half saw both teams starting out with a lot of energy after a long Thanksgiving break. MUN pressured UNB's defense heavily, with little attacking action brought on by UNB. As the half continued UNB's Lucy Parkin (Sheffield, UK) had a strong opportunity in MUN's 18-yard box but could not get a shot off. Momentum continued to shift throughout the first half, with both teams unable to score in the first 45 minutes of the match.

In the second half both teams struggled to find a rhythm. UNB started to pick up their play in the dying minutes of the game, but it was too late. This is UNB's fifth tie this season.

Subway Player of the Game for the Varsity Reds was goalkeeper, Sami Jo Bell (East Dover, NS) and for the Seahawks, Claire Skanes (St. John's, NL)

UNB and MUN will face off again tomorrow, Sunday October 18th, 11am at the BMO Field, Fredericton.
