V-Reds earn second win of the season

(Charlottetown, PEI) The UNB Varsity Reds women's soccer team earned their second win of the season with a 1-0 win over the UPEI Panthers in Charlottetown.

Despite six shots on UPEI's Ashley Mckenna and a couple of corner kicks, the score remained tied at the half. UNB's Sami Jo Bell faced just one shot on goal in the first and would come away with the shut-out.

Following three straight UNB corner kicks in the second UNB's Kayla Painter (Fredericton, NB) managed to find the back of the net in the 75th minute. This goal was the first of the season for the V-Reds fifth year veteran.

The Varsity Reds sit in 4th place in the standings with nine points and a 2-0-3 record.

UNB will next play on Friday, October 2nd at the BMO Centre when they host the Aigles bleues – game time is 5:00 pm.
