(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s hockey team is naming forwards Katelyn Scott and Lauren Toner to their recruiting class of 2023.

The 17-year-old Scott, a member of the Ottawa Jr. Lady Sens, of the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association, is completing her Grade 12 year at Ottawa’s Notre Dame Catholic High School.

Toner, also 17, is a member of the girls prep team at Ridley College, in St. Catharines, Ontario.

Both have signed U SPORTS Letters of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2023-24 Atlantic University Sport season.

“We’re thrilled that Katelyn and Lauren will be joining the REDS in 2023-24,” said REDS head coach Sarah Hilworth. “Katelyn is a highly skilled forward who’s led some prestigious tournaments in scoring and has helped lead her team to early success this year, and Lauren possesses size and skill that will make an immediate impact on our team.”

In 18 games, so far, with the Lady Sens, Scott has scored five goals and assisted on fourteen others.

Toner and her Ridley College Tigers teammates compete in the OWHA too.

“I was impressed the minute I arrived on the campus,” said Toner. “The facilities are amazing, and everyone was so welcoming. I’m looking forward to spending the next few years playing hockey and getting a great education.”

“Lauren is a bright student who also looks to be a leader in the community,” said Coach Hilworth. “We’re sure Fredericton will become a Lauren Toner fan in no time!”

“I chose UNB for the incredible environment that stood out to me the second I arrived in Fredericton,” said Scott. “The culture they’ve been able to build is amazing and I can’t wait to be part of it.”

“We know Katelyn will come in and be an immediate impact player in our line-up,” said Hilworth.

Both Scott and Toner will study Business while attending UNB.
