(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS women’s hockey team, defending Atlantic University Sport champions, is adding blue chip defensive prospect Robyn Brokenshire to their recruiting class of 2023.

The 17-year-old, from St. Albert, Alberta, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent, and will join the REDS ahead of the 2023-2024 AUS season.

“Robyn is a complete package,” said REDS head coach Sarah Hilworth. “We’re excited to inject her skill and ability into our line-up next season. She’s an intelligent puck-moving defender that we know will be a solid addition to our defensive corps.”

Brokenshire is in her Grade 12 year at Paul Kane High School, in St. Albert, and is playing with the St. Albert Bauer Slash, of the U18 AAA Alberta Female Hockey League.

During the 2021-22 season, Brokenshire served as an assistant captain for the Slash and, after scoring five goals and 14 assists, earned the team’s Top Offensive Player Award. She also played for Team Alberta at the U18 Western Regional Championship, along with first-year REDS forward Jorja Nystrom.

“I chose UNB because of the athletes and the coaches,” said Brokenshire. “They’ve created a welcoming and competitive environment and are building on it.”

“Robyn has great provincial team experience and has been a leader. We expect her to come to Fredericton and have a similar impact on our program.”

Brokenshire will study Business while attending UNB.
