(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Reds were looking for a little depth for their blue-line corps, and they’ve found it in Emma Giordano.

The mobile defender, from Ancaster, Ontario, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the Reds beginning in the 2020-21 season.

“I chose UNB because I knew it was the perfect place to spend the next chapter of my life,” said Giordano. “I felt right at home spending time with the coaches and players, and I see so much potential for me academically and athletically at UNB.”

Giordano is currently a member of the Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres of Ontario’s PWHL (Provincial Women’s Hockey League).

Previously, the right-hand shooting blue-liner played for the Ancaster Avalanche Midget AA team.

“Emma is a piece to our puzzle that we’ve been looking for,” said Reds head coach Sarah Hilworth. “She’s a competitor, she attacks space incredibly well, and sees the ice at an elite level. We know her presence on our back end will be felt immediately."

“I’m excited to be part of such a great program with great people all around it,” said Giordano.

Giordano plans on studying Kinesiology while attending UNB.
