(WINDSOR, NS) The UNB REDS fell just short of winning their first Atlantic University Sport curling banner, losing 4-3 to the Dalhousie Tigers in the conference championship, in an extra end on Saturday.

"I'm really pleased with our performance," said UNB skip Jenna Campbell. "I thought the girls played awesome. We stuck it out until the very last shot and did not give up at any point during that game, and I'm really proud of that."

The young UNB squad had a phenomenal Saturday, making a ton of amazing shots throughout the day. In a closely contested match with the Tigers, both teams traded points in a back-and-forth match that needed an extra end to decide a winner.

"This was our first tournament together as a team," said Campbell. "I think we're just learning how to play with each other, how to listen to each other, and know what each other wants to hear on the ice. So, we're going to take all of those lessons forward to next year."

The Tigers were able to steal a point in the extra end when Campbell couldn't connect on a double-take out with her final stone.

The first-year skip had a great day, making a huge shot on her first throw in the 6th end to take out a number of Dal rocks and put UNB up 3-2.

Despite the loss, UNB secured a spot in the Canadian qualifier for the World Universaide. The date for that event has yet to be determined.

"We're just so excited about it. We can't wait to go and represent UNB and do as well there as we did here," said Campbell.

Earlier in the day, the REDS defeated Mount Allison 8-6 in the semi-final to clinch their spot in the AUS Final.

A huge three-point 1st end, followed by a steal of two in the 2nd, allowed UNB to jump ahead early and they wouldn't give up the lead.
