(WINDSOR, NS) The UNB REDS women's curling team had a tough day on Friday, Day Two at the Atlantic University Sport Curling Championships, dropping both of their matches.

In their first game, the REDS lost a close decision to the Dalhousie Tigers, 4-3.

UNB held the hammer until the 4th end where they were able to score a double giving them a 2-0 lead heading into the break.

"We kept it really close and were able to blank the first three ends and waited until we had an opportunity and we capitalized a got two," said REDS skip Jenna Campbell.

Dalhousie answered back with a point in the 5th before Campbell made an impressive draw shot in the 6th end giving UNB the 3-1 lead. The Tigers were able to answer back with a point of their own in the 7th.

The match came down to the 8th end, and UNB holding the hammer and last shot. With Dalhousie lying two, Campbell was looking to draw for the win on her final stone. She missed, allowing Dal to steal two and win the game.

"We had that shot for the win and it just went a little too far," said Campbell. "It definitely lit a fire under us to come out and have a big game in the evening."

In the last match of the day, UNB was unable to get past Saint Mary's falling 6-3 in a tough game.

The ice seemed to play a major factor in the evening match, and the faster speeds seen earlier in the day disappeared. UNB struggled to adjust their throwing weight throughout the match.

"We just couldn't get a handle on the weight control," said Campbell. "Our ice changed halfway through the game, and it got a bit slower, so most of our shots came up a bit too light. We just didn't really catch up fast enough and the other team played really well."

Despite the two losses UNB will play in the semi-finals on Saturday morning. They'll face Mount Allison, at 9:30.

"We need to get a handle on our weight early and maintain that through the whole game. I think that will be the key to success for us," said Campbell.

After round robin play, there was a three-way tie for the last two playoff spots. Last stone draw was used to determine which teams... Mount Allison, Saint Mary's, or UNB... would make it in. UNB and Mount Allison earned the playoff spots.
