(FREDERICTON, NB) The host UNB Reds and the Carleton Ravens, the defending U SPORTS women's basketball champions, scored wins on day one of UNB's Helen Campbell Memorial Tournament.

In the pre-season tournament opener, the Ravens fought back from an early deficit to beat the Waterloo Warriors 67-55.

Madison Reid (Carleton Place, ON) came off the bench to score 15 points to lead the Ravens, while Alyssa Cerino (Stoney Creek, ON) had seven rebounds.

Sydney Wilson (Guelph, ON) led the Warriors with 10 points.

The Reds fell behind early too, going down 9-2 to the Saint Mary's Huskies in the opening minutes of their game.

A 10-0 run turned the tables, and the Reds really never looked back, beating their Atlantic University Sport rivals 83-56.

UNB outscored the Huskies 46-21 in the second and third quarters to pull away.

Mikaela Dodig (Bolton, ON) led the Reds with 15 points, while Jay'on Leak (Charlotte, NC) added 14.

Grace Simpson (Fredericton, NB) had a game-high seven rebounds for UNB.

Alaina McMillan (Brantford, ON) scored 13 points to lead the Huskies, who shot just 37.5% from the field.

Saturday sees the Ravens meeting the Huskies in a 2:00pm tip off.

The Reds take on Waterloo. That game is scheduled to start at 6:00pm.
