(FREDERICTON, NB) Three runners will represent the UNB REDS at this weekend’s U SPORTS Cross Country Championships, in Quebec City.

The national championship event, hosted by Université de Laval, will consist of four laps of a two-kilometre course on the historic Plains of Abraham.

Isaac Cull, Dawson Nancekievill and Chance Blackstone will represent the REDS.

“They were selected based on their performances at the Atlantic University Sport Championships and their progression throughout the 2021 season,” said REDS head coach Chris Belof. “We’re looking to them to have their season-best performances. It’s expected they’ll be ready to perform on the biggest stage this season.”

At the AUS men’s championship, in Moncton, in October, Cull was 10th while Nancekievill ran 17th and Blackstone 21st in a field of 53.

“All three of these young men have progressed well this season. We’ll be looking for that trend to continue as they take on the next challenge, at the national championship,” said Belof.

“Laval has a great venue and have always hosted first-class events.” Laval most recently hosted the U SPORTS Cross Country Championships in 2016.

The field will run practice sessions on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s race. The men’s eight-kilometre race is scheduled for a 2:00pm Atlantic start.
