(CHARLOTTETOWN, PE) Isaac Cull led the UNB Reds men’s cross country team with a top five finish in the first race of the 2018 Atlantic University Sport season.

Cull ran fifth, just ahead of teammate Michael Colford, helping UNB to a third place team finish.

Alex Neuffer, of the St FX X-Men, won Saturday’s six kilometre event in a time of 20:12.

Cull finished 32 seconds behind, in 20:44, and Colford was sixth in 20:53.

“Both Isaac and Michael looked controlled, and followed the race plan very well,” said Reds head coach Chris Belof.

Other Reds were Dawson Nancekievill 14th, Ian Verschoor 18th, Josh Cummings 21st, Mitch Spragg 28th, Adian Donnelly  30th, Alex Clemis 32nd, Bradley McMullin 34th, and Conor Sexton 48th.

“It was a solid outing,” said Belof. “We still need to close the gap between our second and fifth runners. We still have more than a month until the AUS Championship, so staying healthy and building some more fitness are on the agenda for the upcoming weeks.”

The next event on the AUS schedule is this weekend’s St FX Invitational, in Antigonish, NS.
