UNB Sweeps Sea-Hawks

(ST. JOHN'S, NL) The UNB Varsity Reds completed a weekend sweep of the Memorial Sea-Hawks, Sunday afternoon, in St. John's.

The Sea-Hawks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on the Varsity Reds, taking the first set 27-25.

It was an exciting first set, with both teams exchanging leads throughout. The Varsity Reds pushed the score to 25-24, but the Sea-Hawks were able to mount a comeback to tie the match. Cody Harvey(Logy Bay, NL) followed that point with a huge block to give the Sea-Hawks the lead.  Jordan Knee(Valleyfield, NL) would close out the set with a kill for the home side.

The Varsity Reds remained composed, and took the next three sets 25-20, 25-13, and 25-19.

UNB was once again led by reigning AUS MVP Eivind Andersen(Sandnes, NOR), who had a game-high 19 kills and 22 points. UNB Setter Kent Doucette(Tignish, PE) was the leader in assists, finishing with 40.

Memorial was led by Liam Power(Lower Sackville, NS) and Jordan Murray(Burlington, ON). Power had a team-high 15 kills, with Murray providing 11 in a losing effort.

The Sea-Hawks record drops to 0 and 7 on the season, while UNB is in top spot in the AUS with a 3 and 2 record.

In a re-match of last season's AUS final, the Varsity Reds host the Dal Tigers, Friday and Saturday.

The Sea-Hawks don't see action again until January.
