(SAINT JOHN, NB) The UNB Reds track and field team is celebrating another successful weekend of competition.

Team members registered numerous victories and established several new school records at the Saint John Track Club Open, held Saturday, at Saint John's Irving Oil Field House.

Saint John's own Victoria LeBlanc set a new school record in winning the women's long jump with a leap of 5.65 metres. LeBlanc also led a UNB sweep of the podium in the women's triple jump. Teammates Erin McCavour and Lexie Shannon were second and third, respectively.

Hannah Cormier won the women's 1500-metres, shaving four seconds off the previous Reds record in the process. Cormier won in a time of 4:47.28.

Isaac Cull won the men's 1500-metres, while Bradley McMullin won the men's 1000-metres.

Robert Williamson won the men's triple jump, covering 13.00 metres, setting a new school record.

"The three new school records are a great testament to how competitive our team is as they continue to improve each meet," said Reds head coach Chris Belof.

Ben Perrett and Bailey Ferguson ran first and second in the men's 600-metres. Perrett crossed the line in 1:23.83 second, Ferguson in 1:23.86 seconds, establishing the pair as the top-ranked 600-metre runners in Atlantic University Sport.

Braden Harrison was first in the men's 300-metres.

Thayne Hebb won the men's weight throw and shot put.

Micah Hesman won the men's 60-metre hurdles and the men's pole vault, and Ryan Olson was first in the men's high jump.
"The Saint John Open was a good meet to prepare our team for this coming weekend," said Belof. "All event groups performed well and we had many season and personal bests. The groups are trending in the right direction."

The Reds will split up this weekend, with some student-athletes headed to Montreal and McGill's Team Challenge, and some going to Boston, for the John Terrier Classic.

"Both meets offer high performance competition and will be a good test for our athletes," said Belof.
