A former REDS player, Hennigar joined UNB after four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfires where he was an all star in his final season.

He spent four seasons as a RED. During that time he was named the team MVP in all four years and twice took home the prestigious James Downey Shield Award as UNB’s top over-all male athlete.

In 2007, Hennigar helped lead UNB to its first national title in 10 years. He was also a key part of Canada’s gold-winning team at the FISU World University Championship. Following the 2008 season, Hennigar signed a two-year contract with the New York Islanders. He was traded the following summer, after his first pro season, to the Carolina Hurricanes where he saw time in both the AHL and ECHL. Hennigar then signed with the Victoria Salmon Kings of the ECHL.

After three seasons of professional hockey in North America, Hennigar left for Europe where he helped lead Cortina HC to their first Coppa Italia trophy. The following year Hennigar signed in Germany's DEL 2 with the SERC Wild Wings, a team he helped guide to the league finals.

Hennigar finished his playing career in the Newfoundland Senior Hockey League with the championship winning team. He was named league MVP.

He lives in Fredericton with his wife Christy, their daughter Eva and their son Leo.
