(WOLFVILLE, NS) The UNB REDS scored a 5-1 win over the Acadia Axemen on Saturday night, ending Acadia's three-game win streak in the process.

The REDS improve to 19-3-1-1 (W-L-OTL-SOL) with the win, while Acadia falls to 8-13-2-1.

UNB outshot the hosts 36-22.

The REDS jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period.

Emmett Sproule (Collingwood, ON) opened the scoring when he picked up the puck just outside the Acadia blueline after both Axemen defenders collided. Sproule snuck a low shot past Acadia goalie Conor McCollum (Pickering, ON) to put UNB up 1-0.

Connor Hall (Kitchener, ON) scored a few minutes later, on a wrist shot from the point.

Acadia responded 33 seconds later on an incredible solo performance by Peyton Hoyt (Fredericton, NB). He split the defence at the REDS' blueline with a burst of speed, then shot low to beat REDS' goaltender Samuel Richard (Ste. Catherine, QC) to make it a 2-1 game.

UNB doubled their goal total in the second period, going up 4-1 on goals by Sproule and Simon Pinard (Drummondville, QC).

Jason Willms (Kitchener, ON) scored the final goal of the period. He was parked by the right post and buried the puck on a pass from Camaryn Baber (Sault Ste. Marie, ON), who was coming out from behind the Acadia net.

The first half of the third period was light on scoring but heavy on the rough stuff.

A scrum in front of the Acadia net gave the REDS the man-advantage necessary to score their fifth goal on the night.

Benjamin Corbeil (Granby, QC) sniped a one-timer from inside the left face-off circle to push UNB's lead to 5-1.

McCollum stopped 31 of 36 shots, while UNB's Richard turned aside 21 of the 22 shots he faced.

Sproule was named Subway Player of the Game.

Acadia returns to play on Wednesday, when they host Saint Mary's.

The REDS are back on the road next weekend, visiting STFX on Friday and Dalhousie on Saturday.
