Reds Open AUS Semi Final With Win

(FREDERICTON, NB) Alexandre Goulet (Disraeli, QC) scored a hat trick as the UNB Reds defeated the Moncton Aigles Bleus 7-2 Thursday, in game one of their Atlantic University Sport semi final series.

With the win, UNB takes a 1-0 lead in the series.

Goulet's performance earned him the Subway Player of the Game nod.

Samuel Dove-McFalls (Montreal, QC) also added a goal and two assists for the Reds.

"All year, all four lines have been contributing and it was the same way tonight, everyone is scoring goals and playing the game the right way," said Goulet. "It was a great game for us and we are looking to do the same thing tomorrow."

Just over five minutes in, Matthew Boucher (Los Angeles, QC) would streak into the Moncton zone and fire a shot short side on Etienne Montpetit (Valleyfield, QC) to open the scoring for the Reds.

With just over seven minutes left in the period, Patrick Watling (Sault Ste. Marie, ON) put a shot on net that would find its way through the traffic in front to make it 2-0 Reds after the first.

Just 1:18 into the second period, Matt Murphy (Fredericton, NB) would finish off a series of great passes by the Reds to make it 3-0.

Four minutes later Dove-McFalls fed a pass to a wide-open Goulet in front of the Moncton net to extend the lead to 4-0.

Six minutes after that, Goulet would strike again, a beautiful finish for his second of the game and a 5-0 Reds lead.

Dove-McFalls would following just 30 seconds later to make it 6-0 heading into second intermission.

48 seconds into the third period, Vincent Deslauriers (Blainville, QC) would get one back for the Aigles Bleus to make it 6-1.

Goulet would complete the hat trick, on the power-play, restoring the six-goal lead, 7-1.

"It was a good game for them and a bad game for us," said Moncton head coach Judes Vallée.

Maxime St-Cyr (St-Didace, QC) added a late goal for Moncton to make it a 7-2 final.

UNB outshot Moncton 41-18.

UNB went 1-for-3 on the power-play while Moncton went 1-for-6.

Samuel Harvey (Alma, QC) made 16 saves for the Reds, while Montpetit and Alexi Thibaudeau (Riverview, NB) each made 17 saves for the Aigles Bleus.

Game two of the series goes Friday, at UNB's Aitken Centre. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7:00pm.
