UNB Scores Late To Beat UdeM

(MONCTON, NB) Two goals, less than four minutes apart, late in the third period, allowed the UNB Varsity Reds to extend their win streak to 10 games.

Cam Braes and Rob Mignardi scored as UNB rallied to beat the Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus 4-3.

Chris Clapperton scored twice, as the Varsity Reds came back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits in the early going.

Jean-Francois Plante scored twice to lead Moncton, including one on a short-handed breakaway.

Alex Emond also scored for les Aigles Bleus.

Etienne Marcoux stopped 31 shots for his second win in as many nights.

Moncton head coach Serge Bourgeois felt his team deserved a better fate. "I had six regulars off the roster because of injuries and the others worked hard. The bad bounces were not in our favour, but that is hockey."

Moncton goaltender Adrien Lemay was upset following the loss.

'''We know we need to play a full 60 minutes against teams like this. We know we can play against the best. It was playoffs hockey tonight."

The Varsity Reds return home to face the Saint Mary's Huskies, on Friday.

Face off is scheduled for 7:00PM, at the Aitken University Centre.
