(WINDSOR, NS) The UNB REDS curling teams returned to action Thursday, the first day of the 2022 Atlantic University Sport Curling Championships.

The REDS men's team struggled, dropping a 9-3 decision to the Saint Mary's Huskies.

UNB fell behind 3-0 after the first two ends before bouncing back in the 3rd, scoring a double to make the score 3-2.

But the REDS were unable to match the pace of the Huskies who were able to score 3 points in each of the 4thand 6th ends to pull off the 9-3 victory.

"We were struggling to catch on to the ice early," said UNB skip Alex Gallant. "Our shots were running really quick and straight. We started to figure it out coming on to the 3rd end, but by then we had to take some chances and we were unable to make enough shots."

The men will play Dalhousie in the second draw, Friday at 2:00pm, and will finish round-robin play against Memorial at 7:00pm.

"We'll just have to keep it simple," said Gallant. "They're both really good teams with no weaknesses, so we'll have to just keep our game simple and hope for a miss. But I think we have a good chance against both teams tomorrow."
