Masters Leads VReds Past Panthers

(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB Varsity Reds put on a show Friday, defeating the UPEI Panthers 102-87.

The night began with Javon Master being honoured for recently becoming UNB's new regular season all time scoring leader.

He was given a basketball with 1536 emblazoned on it… one more than the previous record of 1535, set by Scott Devine, between the 1978-79 and 1982-83 seasons.

Both teams came out with lots of energy, playing an entertaining first quarter.

UNB took the early lead 24-19.

As the first half came to an end, UNB had a convincing 50-37 lead.

Despite some foul concerns for both teams, the Varsity Reds took total control in the second half, leading every step of the way and winning 102-87.

Masters was the Subway player of the game. He scored 23 points, added 9 assists and grabbed three rebounds.

The Varsity Reds conclude the regular season on Saturday, when they face the Acadia Axemen, at the Richard J. Currie Center.

Game time is 8:00PM.
