V-Reds Men's Basketball Update #4

Weekly Update Wk No.4 2010-11

The Varsity Reds finished off their preseason schedule with two games at the St.F.X.U. Nike Tip-Off. The Reds returned to the court with the opponent they defeated in overtime in Quebec city the previous Sunday.

UNB 52 vs  SMU  88 – Friday Oct. 29 6:00 p.m. Antigonish

UNB STATS:

Daniel Quirion (Moncton, NB) 11points

Alex DesRoches (Dieppe, NB) 12 rebounds

Coach's Comments:  St. Mary’s totally owned this contest as our squad did not

compete for first 20 minutes of this contest. The half time score was 47-18. If you don’t pay attention to history it’s bound to repeat it self. We won two games at the Garland last year and got complacent only to get shelled by St. Mary’s in the first game of the tournament last year. As much as you try to address this issue during practice leading up to the tournament until they get kicked in the teeth with reality no real learning takes place. Hopefully, having our pride handed to us on a platter definitely gave our players a reality check with regard to our mental preparation.

UNB 79  vs  UPEI 75 Saturday Oct.30  6:00 p.m. Antigonish

STATS:

William McFee (Northbridge, Australia) 18 pts  & Tournament All Star

Lonzel Lowe (Brampton, ON) 12 points 7 rebounds

Antwann Parks (Queens, NY) 12pts

Jason Rouse (Fredericton, NB) 10pts

Coach's Comments: It was a good bounce back victory leading into league play in two weeks time. Will McFee was inserted into the staring line to bring some defensive intensity and scoring. He responded with 18 points and a number key  drawn charges in the second quarter. Antwann Parks gave solid minutes off the bench with a big 3 pointer

and 5-5 from the free throw line down the stretch. The squad will get healthy as the team prepares for the crucial start to the season when MUN comes to town for a

doubleheader Nov. 13 &14.

UNB Team Record: League 0– 0 Exhibition 5–6 Overall 5-6

Next-Up: The Reds start league play with a home stand doubleheader vs Memorial. Nov. 13th 8:00 p.m. and Sunday Nov. 14 at 1:00 p.m.
